GTN US
Partner, Global Client Experience

"What I like best about GTN is the autonomy. This is our business and we are the ones making things happen. We're committed to a firm culture that provides our clients with responsive, personalized service."

Talk with any number of Steve's clients about him and a definite theme begins to emerge - a drive to deliver results. Whether a client needs advice about a potential international assignment or the tax implications of global mobility, colleagues and clients alike trust Steve to get things done.

Steve found his niche in international assignment tax while working for Arthur Andersen and being sent on a short-term international assignment to Brussels, Belgium. After 11 years in Arthur Andersen's global mobility practice area, he moved to Ernst & Young, eventually becoming a partner. While there, he served a 3-1/2 year assignment in Singapore, giving him firsthand experience as an expat - knowledge he relies on even now to help clients review and develop effective international mobility policies.

Steve joined the firm in October 2005 and began serving as GTN’s Chief Operating Officer in 2008. Effective January 1, 2018, Steve’s role and title transitioned to Partner, Global Client Experience where he increased his focus and commitment to the firm’s promise of being the trusted partner and resource for their clients. Steve retired December 2020.

Steve is proud of helping the firm grow from five employees to a global company in its own right and is best known for:

  • Translating complicated tax language into meaningful advice for his clients;
  • Seeing both sides of an issue and developing a solution equitable to all involved;
  • Staying calm, regardless of the situation.

Steve has spoken at various international conferences, including the ERC Global Workforce Symposium and has presented training sessions on global mobility tax matters for partner vendors and clients. He is also a regular contributor to the firm's monthly newsletters and webinars. Steve is a graduate from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management, with a degree in accounting. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Steve supports children and young adults through scholarships and volunteer work at local schools. He is also actively involved with animal rescue and veterans organizations.

After traveling the globe for many years, Steve now enjoys traveling the US in his RV, hiking and sightseeing in state and national parks, and working on his golf game.
