While it would be true to say that the heart and soul of our company was ignited by a vision in mid-2000, that would only be a small part of our story. The foundation of our company was built on taking chances, recognizing opportunity, and seeking new adventures. In fact, we believe these attributes to be at the very core of why we have always shared such a strong connection with our clients.
As mobility tax consultants, we work with people that are taking chances every single day. These are people packing up their lives, both for the short and long term, and heading out on overseas adventures. Our clients are often times stepping out of their comfort zone, and we are here to sort out the international tax details so they can enjoy the ride.
Our journey began in Minneapolis, in August of 2000. David Kolb, now President of GTN US, took a chance. With the support of his wife Barb, he left a promising future with a Big 4 firm and started a small mobility tax business out of the basement of their home.
This would not be your average, everyday tax accounting firm.
Dave had a vision of managing mobility tax a bit differently than the big guys. He recognized an opportunity to improve the quality of client service in the world of international tax. His goal was to build a company culture that was not only focused on the client, but also based on strong core values, shared by employees and global partners alike.
This company would operate based on clients having direct access to the most seasoned tax experts, the reverse business model of the bigger firms. Instead of an accounting firm with several different audit and tax departments, this firm would focus solely on global mobility tax compliance and consulting.
To best serve the client on local tax laws in foreign countries, Dave started making connections around the world. As he began researching and connecting, it became apparent that there were like-minded mobility tax experts out there, not only with similar backgrounds, but also with the same vision. One by one, the firm grew and overseas contacts began to weave into global relationships.
With each new relationship came a string of new connections. Each connection bound by a common mission of navigating international businessmen and women through the unfamiliar territory of global tax laws.
In the latter part of 2001, this company that got its start out of a basement in Minneapolis, joined forces with a firm in Denver and together took on the Global Tax Network name. This would be just the beginning of GTN’s global reach and network growth, which now stands with connections in over 100 countries.
As the world became a bit smaller and relationships took on a global reach, Dave was introduced to a man named Steve Daas. Dave would soon find out that Steve not only shared a similar background as a former Big 4 employee, but also a common vision and commitment to client service. In 2005, with 5 employees on staff, Steve joined the team as co-owner of GTN US. Under the leadership of Dave and Steve, GTN US has flourished to over 80 employees to date and growing.
From the basement of Dave and Barb’s home in August 2000, to the GTN US of today, we have remained committed to the original vision of our founders and the core values that were set. It is these core values that have encouraged and developed a culture that revolves around our people, from our clients, to our global partners, to our employees.

In 2019, GTN became an independent member firm of Moore Stephens North America, which is itself a regional member of Moore Stephens International Limited (MSIL). All the firms in MSIL are independent entities, owned and managed in each location. Their membership in, or association with, MSIL should not be construed as constituting or implying any partnership between them.
MSIL has grown to be one of the largest international accounting and consulting groups worldwide. Today the network comprises 609 offices in 112 countries throughout the world, incorporating over 30,000 people and with fees of more than US $3 billion.
In 2016, we refreshed our brand identity and developed a new look, complete with new logo. The rebranding encompasses our evolution, vision for the future, and dedication to making your tax world easier to travel. Our retired logo is shown below.
